About
I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and took a detour into business for about ten years, before I took a chance following my dreams. I moved from Texas to Washington state and received my Master of Counseling from St. Martin’s University. I am currently licensed in South Carolina as an LPCA, and also licensed in Washington state as an LMHCA and SUDPT.
My personal philosophy is to learn from experience and keep going.
I am a bit of a nomad and an adventurer at heart. This had led me to several different situations and helped me meet people from many walks of life. I genuinely enjoy people and early on, developed an urgency to understand those around me. I currently live in Columbia, SC with my partner, step son and three dogs.
My Passion
I was drawn to this career because I believe we all need to be understood a little more and that through understanding, we create compassion for ourselves and others, and help each other live better lives. We deserve to live a life we love. This can feel difficult to achieve for so many reasons including relationships, environment and lack of resources. However I trust that we can make this a reality although it takes effort, patience, a little luck and some guidance.
I believe that overcoming difficulty makes us stronger. It’s popular to hear that bad situations or trauma make us stronger and I disagree. They are not a badge of honor. They are terrible times in our lives that take a toll on our mental, emotional and many times, physical health. However it is our ability to face our troubles and to overcome them that make us resilient. Our ability as humans to endure difficulties and to hold onto hope help us in the face of incredible turmoil, evil and impossibility. It is the reason the story of the underdog resonates with so many of us.
